Scrabble Strategies

Here are some of the best strategies to improve your Scrabble game, whether it’s an online match vs a stranger or a face to face battle on family game night with your siblings are parents.

  1. Learn your two letter words.  Knowing all or at least the high-scoring and common ones can be very beneficial, especially at the end of the game.  If you need a refresher, you can check out Two Letter Scrabble Words page, that lists them all.  There are times toward the end of a game where you can actually make 4 words, using only 2 tiles.  If you can fit a high scoring letter, such as an X or a Q into one of these plays, you can rack up the points.
  2. Value your S tiles and blank tiles!  Don’t just play them as soon as you get them.  Make them work for you, even if you have to hold them for a turn or two.  Playing all 7 tiles in a single turn can single-handedly win you a game.  So build you rack with the goal of creating a play where you can use all 7 tiles and score big points.
  3. Be hyper-aware of the multipliers on the board.  Not only using them on your turn, but also being careful not to set up an easy play for your opponent to use them on their turn.  Sometimes blocking your opponent from using a high value multiplier and making a big score play can be just as valuable as making a play yourself.
  4. Use the word solver to learn new words and to expand your vocabulary.  Even if you play games without help, you can still learn a lot from the Scrabble Word Solver for use in future matches.
